Vol. 1 No. 1 In Tribute to Our Parents: Lewis & Gladys Post
My sister, Louise, and I established The Post Foundation in memory of our father, Lewis I Post MD. He was a person who enjoyed family and his career as Chief of GYN Surgery at Tulane Medical School. Over the years, he and my mother Gladys H. Post created a network of friends that spanned coast to coast.
We benefited greatly from a loving family environment. And of course, growing up in the New Orleans area certainly provided a wonderful playground to experience life.
Both of our parents were part of "The Greatest Generation" as they served in the US Army during the height of World War II. They met while serving at Brooke Army Medical Hospital (in San Antonio, Texas). I am certain this experience shaped not only their lives but also the lives of myself and my sister.
Our parents worked hard in their early years. My father was raised in New York City, and my mother grew up in the heartland of Minnesota's farm country with strong Scandinavian influences.
In my own life, I have always thought that I was fortunate to experience the various elements of these sub-cultures (North, South, and Midwest). I have attempted to extract the best values from each into my own life. Some of these values include: work ethic, going the extra mile, persistence, a regard for nature, compassion for my fellow man, living life to its fullest, and not taking yourself too seriously.
My sister and I are attempting to perpetuate some of the value systems that our parents instilled in us while also serving to give proper acknowledgment to The Deep South, our own 'home' region.
The Post Foundation aspires to showcase and foster the best elements of Deep South Life that motivate, inspire, and lead others to become the best that they can be.
With the assistance and participation of others who share our vision, The POST Foundation hopes to establish itself as a reputable, cost-efficient, independent Deep South Resource Center to showcase and foster: Innovation, integrity, and Quality of Life.
